Recovery Star

Recovery Star

The Recovery Star is a nationally recognised assessment that can be used to track the progress of our people in key areas of their independence.

The specific assessment that we use at Thistle Hill Hall is the Mental Health Recovery Star which focuses on 10 key areas of functioning:

· Managing Mental Health

· Physical Health and Self Care

· Living Skills

· Social Networks

· Work

· Relationships

· Addictive Behaviours

· Responsibilities

· Identity and Self Esteem

· Trust and Hope

We use the Recovery Star since this incorporates a persons view on their treatment and recovery and that of their named nurse. Each score is collaboratively agreed upon for each area between 1 (Stuck) and 10 (Self-Reliant) and then plotted to make the star image.

An explanation, using the persons own words, where possible, is used to record why each area received that particular score. This scale is called the Ladder of Change.

The assessments are completed at least every 3 months and any change is seen in a visual format.

An Action Plan is then completed for each Recovery Star to set realistic, achievable and specific goals for our people to aim for before the next assessment.
